1.       When was   Suchitra established and who were initial team and their   involvement with  films?

1971 it started, some efforts, by MV Krishnaswamy…Engineers of psus, BEEL, ITI , HAL etc…Theatre it was bank  unions…  11 film societies  those…days..


2.       How was the first 10 yrs in terms of   membership numbers and funding…(membership fee etc..)
3.       Suchitra---late seventies --- stopped taking members… around thousand..members,attendence was large…

4.       Bangalore had too many FS and how did Suchitra establish a place for itself among the many FSs here?

71  administrative  effort voluntarily basis…. Movement, 79,,  Karnataka govt responsive…  membership across the board…. VN Subha Rao…journalist…presided…79 BDA offered… Trust---Suchitra  film academy—a trust.. to handle the property…South Bangalore,, Bna shankaree. 2nd street…, raised funds…govt..funds…RK Hegde… pitched…functional  theatre… Initial p urpose  was screening… 150  capacity…Cinema and cultural academy…other  areas of culture…. Kalakendra…
Children’s wing…media wing…  film school…centre for film drama… from voluntary to professional… Govt supports  it  a grants…

Minimum of 5 screenings every month.. Annual 200 members..life membership…650….big festivals… temporary    members for festival Bangalore international -2006—4 editions…2011—govt taken over….chalachitra academy..


5.       What was the highest membership and when and also what was the lowest membership and when? The current membership and activity levels—screenings per month, quarter, festivals etc… ( Can I get initial members, membership after a decade and  membership now?)


6.       How are you coping with the increasing technological changes, projection, hall charges, film format etc …and also availability of films?
7.        All formats of projection…35 mm 16, mm  latest digital projection.. Membership Patten… appreciation courses, short film festival documentaries… embassies… active film society…
Academic work,,,film festivals…new crop of youngsters… studies   cinema in comunciaitons  department..

Not as 70s…but active…

8.       Has the hay days of film societies ended, your experience and is so what hold for the future of this movement?
Film society concept has to be redefined…
Right to see what you want to see..
Like music… like right to cinema
Advance digital technology—idea to be redefined…
Right to see to choose to see…
Curating films important—international film festival of the year… Support institutions..University film appreciations etc..Chalachitra academy—district   film clubs support…Idea was given by Subha Rao…

9.       How do you see  Suchitra by 2022?
Cultural hub-- intellectual centre…overseas    swedish---MOU  with Guttenberg university… suchitra  a film school..
 Film society is the author…brand name….theater…
10.   Is there any one intervention   which can salvage the situation for the FS in general?
Ida  of seeing films to  curating films..selective process.  Getting youngsters involved in it… 30 communications department—cinema not a professional study…film clubs in colleagues---localized…film clubs…Builders too approached…stages—want a film club.. make it localized… give a choice—over the availability…copy right laws an impediment etcc… six hour seminar on copy right …

11.   Has the FS in Bangalore supported and made a space for the film makers like  Pattabhirama Reddy, karnad, karanth and  Kasaravalli?
Kasaravalli a member…space members for the films maker…film makers are invited..

12.   Does the govnt has any role  in FS and good films movement?
Chalachitra  academcy---and  spreading   across the state..film clubs…consultant   suchitra… Grqnt is for other cultural activity…Kannada   language…
